Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy for Men

Have your energy and moods been on a downward slide? Andropause, also called male menopause or low T, can creep up on you, slowly draining your vigor and virility. The hormone specialists at Longevità Medical in Victor, NY, have safe, effective treatment options to get you back in the game.

With a simple consultation, you’ll learn if you’re a candidate for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), such as testosterone therapy. As leading BHRT specialists, we have helped many men in Rochester and throughout Upstate New York live their lives to the fullest with our safe, effective, medically managed hormone replacement program.

Symptoms of Male Hormone Imbalance (Low T)

Common signs of hormone imbalance in men include:

  • Fatigue
  • Mood swings
  • Low libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Weight gain
  • Sleep problems
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Trouble focusing
  • Depression
  • Hair loss or thinning

Why Do Hormones Matter?

Your endocrine system produces hormones that control many of your body’s functions, including metabolism, stress response, sex drive, moods, regeneration, and more. When hormones become off balance, even slightly, men can experience a variety of problems.

Because testosterone and other hormone production naturally decline with age, imbalances are common in men as early as their 40s.

What Are Bioidentical Hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are derived from plant-based sources, such as Mexican wild yams, that contain a chemical called diosgenin. Compounding pharmacies can chemically convert diosgenin into synthetic bioidentical hormones, such as testosterone, progesterone, and DHEA, which are identical to the natural molecular/chemical structure of the hormones our bodies generate.

Is BHRT Right for You?

BHRT can help men bring their hormone levels into balance and alleviate symptoms associated with andropause. Bioidentical hormones have over 30 years of support for their safety and efficacy.

To ensure you are a candidate for BHRT, a thorough health assessment and physical exam will be completed at your consultation prior to starting hormone therapy.

Common Therapies To Balance Male Hormones

Therapies for men with low T include testosterone and DHEA (adrenal hormone) to boost energy, treat erectile dysfunction (ED), increase strength and recovery after workouts, and maintain bone density.

In addition to BHRT, you should make healthy lifestyle choices that include aerobic and resistance exercise, eating right, and minimizing alcohol and tobacco use.

Why Is BHRT Better Than HRT?

Bioidentical hormones have the same molecular structure as natural hormones so that the body can use them without harmful side effects. These substances can be custom compounded for your specific needs.

Additional Benefits of BHRT

While BHRT effectively treats the symptoms of andropause, it provides additional health benefits, including:

  • Improvement in sexual function, skin quality, vitality, and cognitive functioning
  • Increased muscle mass and bone density
  • Decreased risk for cardiovascular disease
  • Improvement in lipid profile (cholesterol panel)
  • Reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease (up to 23%)
  • Lowered incidence of colon cancer

We Use a Compounding Pharmacy for Quality and Peace-of-Mind

Our compounding pharmacy is MedQuest, one of the largest compounding pharmacies in our country. They are highly regulated, third-party tested, and meet high standards of purity, safety, and accuracy. Using a compounding pharmacy allows us to further individualize medication doses for our patients depending on their age, level of hormone depletion, and response to dosages. We cannot achieve such a precise level of medication management with standard pharmacies. Also, we cannot guarantee that a standard pharmacy will not source the ingredients from other countries.

We assess hormone levels and the body’s response to hormone supplementation using serum samples taken from the blood instead of saliva testing, which is unreliable and inaccurate.
